Spencer Pratt's $10 Million Apocalypse Spending Spree: A Mayoral Candidate's Wild Past
Spencer Pratt is back in the spotlight, this time vying for the mayoral throne of Los Angeles. The reality TV star and former Hills heartthrob has a wild past that includes a jaw-dropping $10 million spent on doomsday preparations.
At 42, Pratt is currently neck-and-neck with incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the race, just weeks away from the primary election. His campaign has garnered some star-studded endorsements from the likes of Paris Hilton and Rob Schneider, but his past spending habits are raising eyebrows.

After his Pacific Palisades home was engulfed in flames during the catastrophic LA wildfires, Pratt announced his candidacy in January. But it’s his extravagant spending spree in anticipation of the 2012 apocalypse that’s making headlines again.
Back in December 2013, Pratt confessed that he and his wife, Heidi Montag, were convinced the world would end on December 21, 2012, thanks to Mayan prophecies. They reportedly blew their reality TV fortune on lavish purchases, believing they had to live it up before the supposed asteroid hit.
During his time on MTV’s The Hills, Pratt raked in a staggering $175,000 per episode, while he and Montag pulled in around $2 million annually from various paid gigs. But instead of saving for a rainy day, they went on a spending frenzy.

Pratt revealed, “We thought we had to spend this money before the asteroid hits.” He later quipped about their financial folly, advising others against spending recklessly based on apocalyptic fears: “The world didn’t end.”
What did they buy? An armored truck, crystals worth a whopping $1 million, nightly security costing $15,000, and extravagant gifts for friends. They even handed out $200 tips to doormen and valets just to deplete their accounts. Shopping sprees reached $30,000, and they splurged on $4,000 bottles of wine.

Now that Pratt is running for office, his past financial decisions are resurfacing, igniting a firestorm of reactions on social media. One user slammed his “hoarding of luxury items” as “the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen,” while another lamented the need for serious candidates instead of “clown show rejects.”
“And crystals remember...lots of crystals... They should not have anything to do with money or being in charge of an entire city,” another commenter added, highlighting the absurdity of reality stars entering politics.
As Spencer Pratt navigates the treacherous waters of political ambition, his extravagant past serves as a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can vanish when fueled by fear and excess.
