‘Total Outrage’: CNN Anchor’s Post-Shooting Inquiry for Dem Stuns Viewers

CNN anchor Dana Bash sparked controversy on Sunday after questioning Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) about the Democrats' “heated rhetoric” towards former President Donald Trump, following a shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

“Do you reconsider that when events like this occur?” Bash asked during her segment on “State of the Union.”

“What rhetoric are you referring to?” Raskin responded, seeking clarification.

This exchange unfolded after Bash suggested a correlation between divisive political language and an increase in violence in recent years.

Raskin pointed out that Trump has labeled the media as the “enemy of the people” and has taken legal action against several news organizations. He expressed hope that the dinner, attended by Trump and key officials from his administration, would have been a chance to reaffirm the nation’s core values.

After accusing Raskin and other Democrats of employing “some heated rhetoric” against Trump, Bash highlighted the party's claims regarding the president's detrimental impact on the country.

“I recognize that’s your democratic right, but do you bear any responsibility overall—” Bash began before Raskin interrupted her.

Raskin clarified that he holds no “personal animosity” towards Trump, emphasizing his focus on the administration's policies, particularly the “authoritarianism” evident during the severe immigration enforcement in Minneapolis.

“I’m discussing policies. I don’t make it personal, and I certainly have never labeled the press as ‘the enemy of the people,’” Raskin stated firmly.

Critics quickly took to social media to voice their disapproval of Bash’s comments. One user on X labeled her a “total outrage,” while another remarked that such rhetoric contributes to enabling Trump’s return to power.
