Trump Aide and Lawmaker Engage in Savage Social Media Slugfest Over Appearance
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung unleashed a vicious attack on Democratic Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, mocking her appearance and behavior during a congressional hearing. This clash erupted despite recent White House appeals for reduced political hostility.
The confrontation ignited when Cheung took to X, labeling DeLauro as a “blue-haired Democrat freak widely gesticulating in a fit of rage.” His comment aimed to belittle her demeanor during the session.
Cheung contrasted DeLauro's outburst with the composed demeanor of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, who he claimed remained “calm, cool, and collected” throughout the hearing.
DeLauro fired back directly at Cheung’s post, retorting, “‘Widely’ is crazy coming from you.”
This online spat follows a previous incident earlier this year when the official White House account on X hurled another personal jab at DeLauro, stating, “Terrible take. Even worse hair.”

These personal attacks come despite White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s earlier calls for political figures and the media to dial down aggressive language. Leavitt condemned what she described as “systemic demonization” of Trump and his supporters by Democrats and some media outlets.

She claimed that “hateful and constant and violent rhetoric” only serves to legitimize hostility, particularly following a security incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
President Donald Trump has a notorious track record of publicly deriding political adversaries, journalists, and public figures with personal insults that often target their physical appearance.
