Trump Associate Links Media Dinner Shooting to Controversial Anti-Hate Group

Apr 26 2026

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) attempted to establish a link between the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., and recent allegations against a civil rights nonprofit.

Speaking on Fox News, Jordan, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, suggested that the timing of the shooting—described by him as a third assassination attempt on Trump—was significant, coinciding with the Southern Poverty Law Center facing serious fraud allegations.

Jordan accused the SPLC, known for monitoring hate groups and often criticized by conservative factions, of financially incentivizing the very hate it claims to combat. “I don’t think it’s an accident that we learn about those two things the same week,” he asserted during his conversation with host Maria Bartiromo.

However, Jordan did not provide any substantial evidence to back his claims regarding the alleged connection.

“This stuff has got to stop,” he stated, attributing the divisive rhetoric from the left as potentially motivating the shooter. White House officials confirmed they reviewed writings from the suspect, who expressed intentions to target administration officials. The individual was arrested after discharging multiple rounds outside the Washington Hilton ballroom where the dinner was held and remains in custody.

In a separate development, the Department of Justice recently filed 11 criminal charges against the SPLC, including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The allegations suggest that the organization misled donors and financial institutions through a now-defunct program that compensated informants associated with extremist groups like the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Nation.

Legal experts have criticized the investigation as politically charged, while the SPLC has pledged to vigorously defend itself against these claims.

Jordan praised Trump for maintaining “poise and composure” in light of multiple threats to his life, remarking to Bartiromo that “very few human beings” could manage such situations as Trump has.
