Trump Claims FBI is ‘Wasting Their Time’ on Lindsey Graham’s Sudden Death

Jul 15 2026

President Donald Trump slammed the FBI's investigation into the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., declaring, “the FBI is wasting their time.” This statement came as conspiracy theories about Graham's demise circulated following his death at 71.

Reporters pressed Trump in the Oval Office about FBI agents spotted at Graham’s home near the Capitol after his passing on Saturday night. Trump responded, “I don’t see a lot of evil there,” dismissing the need for an investigation.

The chief medical examiner in Washington reported that Graham suffered from “aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” indicating a rupture of his aorta linked to hardened arteries. Authorities are still waiting for toxicology results and further testing.

Trump, engaged in discussions with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and addressing a crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, was reportedly well-informed about Graham’s situation. He had spoken to Graham shortly before his death, making him one of the last people to communicate with the senator.

Having reviewed all medical reports related to Graham’s death, Trump noted that Graham’s father also succumbed to heart issues at a young age. “They say it’s almost undetectable,” Trump explained. “You can detect it if you have a very bad back. That’s a sign. It’s a bad sign.” He added that Graham had mentioned his back problems, which were later linked to his fatal condition.

The FBI has not commented on Trump’s remarks regarding their investigation.

On Newsmax, Trump addressed conspiracy theories suggesting possible poisoning by Russia. Graham, a staunch supporter of Ukraine and Israel, had recently advocated for stricter sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy just a day before his death. “Just to answer the conspiracy theory, I’d love to say yes, but I think he — he had some problems,” Trump stated. “And his father died just about at the same age.”

On Monday afternoon, nearly 20 FBI and federal agents were seen outside Graham’s Capitol Hill residence. Agents entered the home, taking photographs but not removing any items.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the agency is “assisting local authorities” in the investigation. Sources indicated that federal agents are proceeding with caution but have found no evidence of foul play since Saturday night.

In a related development, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, to complete her brother’s term, which concludes in January. Darline is set to take the oath of office Tuesday afternoon.
