Trump Goes Ballistic Over Kennedy Center Ruling, Admits Defeat in Name Game

May 30 2026

Donald Trump exploded on Truth Social, unleashing fury over a judge's ruling that obliterated his name from the Kennedy Center, a venue he claims has been in decline for years.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper declared that the center cannot be renamed without congressional approval. Trump, in a fit of rage, insisted that the 36-member Board of Trustees had the right to add "TRUMP" to the center's name, transforming it into The Trump Kennedy Center.

He raged, "Judge Cooper ruled that the Board did not have the right to do such an addition, and the name, 'TRUMP,' must be removed." His statement dripped with indignation as he lamented the center's financial woes prior to his involvement.

Trump claimed, "The Kennedy Center has lost, over the years, prior to our getting involved... Hundreds of Millions of Dollars." He boasted about taking over a "losing Institution," vowing to turn it into a "Great and Prestigious WINNER for Washington, D.C." and the nation.

He accused Judge Cooper and the "Radical Left" of preferring to see the center "DIE" rather than allow him to revitalize it. Trump pointed to his past successes with various projects, asserting he had brought beauty back to a "SAFE AND SECURE" Washington, D.C.

In a further tirade, he stated, "the Radical Left Democrats care more about opposing your favorite President, ME, than saving a dying Performing Arts Center." He announced plans to work with Congress to hand over the failing institution for their decision-making.

The ruling means the 'Trump Kennedy Center' will cease to exist. Trump highlighted that Cooper received a presentation detailing the building's structural dangers, including rotting beams and collapsing parking areas.

He declared, "Judge Cooper should be ashamed of himself!" expressing his unwillingness to engage in a situation where public safety is compromised. He insisted he could restore the institution better than anyone else.

Trump concluded his lengthy rant by claiming no president has faced such unfair treatment from the courts but vowed to continue serving the people of the country.

Maria Shriver, niece of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, chimed in on the ruling, calling it an "appropriate birthday present" on her uncle's birth anniversary.

She acknowledged that while an appeal might be forthcoming from the Trump administration, today was a day for celebration. Shriver stated, "A federal judge ruled that President Trump and the Kennedy Center Board acted unlawfully in renaming the Kennedy Center." She emphasized that only Congress can change its name.

The Kennedy Center is just one of many initiatives where Trump has sought to attach his name as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.

Another controversial effort involves a proposal from the Department of Treasury to introduce a new $250 bill featuring Trump's portrait. This proposal faces legal hurdles due to the Thayer Act of 1866, which prohibits commemorating living individuals on currency notes.

“There has never been a President of the United States who has been treated so unfairly by the Courts as I but, that’s OK, I will continue to do, what is considered to be, a great job for the wonderful people of our Country.”
