Trump Goes Off on BBC Reporter: "Fake News" and Legal Battles Await
“Who are you with?” Donald Trump shot back at a BBC reporter aboard Air Force One, igniting a fiery exchange that left no room for niceties. The radio journalist, attempting to ask a question, was met with the President's scathing retort: “The fake BBC. You mean the ones that put AI in my mouth?”
Trump didn’t hold back, accusing the British broadcaster of fabricating statements and misleading the public. “They had me saying things that they now admit were not true. The ones that are being sued for $5 billion and don’t know what to do? You’re with [the] BBC? They’re another fake outfit,” he raged.

Legal drama looms large as Trump pursues a lawsuit against the BBC, with court proceedings set for February 2027. He claims the network “intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively” edited his speech from January 6, 2021, just before the Capitol riots erupted.
The BBC has issued an apology regarding its Panorama program’s editing but stands firm, asserting there are no grounds for defamation and rejecting Trump’s financial demands. The President’s words before the Capitol storming were clear: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women.” Just over 50 minutes later, he declared, “And we fight. We fight like hell.” Yet, footage from the documentary shows him saying, “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol... and I’ll be there with you. And we fight. We fight like hell.”

Trump’s history of confrontations with reporters is well-documented. A BBC spokesperson reiterated their commitment to defending against Trump’s claims: “As we have made clear previously, we will be defending this case. We are not going to make further comment on ongoing legal proceedings.”
This isn’t Trump’s first rodeo with media backlash. He recently slammed The New York Times’ Daniel Sagner, who questioned the effectiveness of military actions in Iran. “What would the use be in repeating the bombing? You did it for 38 days, and you did not get the political changes in Iran,” Sagner posed.

Trump fired back, “I got a total military victory. But the fake news, guys like you, write incorrectly. You’re a fake guy. We had a total military victory. We knocked out their entire navy, their entire air force, all of their anti-aircraft weaponry, all of their radar, all of their leaders—number one—and then we knocked out all of their leaders in the second division, and we knocked out numerous of their leaders in the third division. They’re very confused.”
In a week filled with controversy during his China state visit, Trump didn’t hold back his disdain for media outlets he deems untrustworthy. “We’ve had a total victory, except for people like you who don’t write the truth,” he said. “You should write. I actually think it’s sort of treasonous what you write.”
He continued his tirade against major news networks: “You and The New York Times and CNN are the worst. You should be ashamed. I actually think it is treason when you write, like, ‘They’re doing well militarily,’ and they have no navy, no air force, no anti-anything.”
