Trump's $100 Million 'Triumphal Arch' Mocked as a Cheap Joke

Jun 29 2026

The Trump administration's "triumphal arch," estimated at $100 million, faces ridicule as visitors mock its shoddy construction at the Great American State Fair.

Americans unleashed a torrent of criticism on Monday, branding the arch model as "cheap" amid a series of failures plaguing the fair, which aims to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary. Musical acts dropped out, and attendance numbers dwindled, but the most scathing remarks focused on the arch itself.

One user filmed the structure falling apart, pointing out that "these buildings at the Great American State Fair are just covered in printed sheets that are literally stapled on." The video zoomed in on the arch, revealing dozens of staples along its seams.

Critics piled on with biting commentary. One remarked, "Like everything in Trump's life, it’s just a cheap cover-up hiding the dark empty rotting soul underneath... just like his hair, his make-up, his 'gold' accessories, his shoes, his phones... everything about him is phony hollow and fake."

As the event progressed, it became increasingly barebones. Multiple artists and staffing booths withdrew last minute, leaving attendees with little more than poorly constructed models to admire.

"This has to be the tackiest administration," one critic stated bluntly. Another added, "It looks really cheap."

The $100 million price tag for the arch could escalate further in the coming months. President Trump views this project as pivotal for cementing his legacy as both the 45th and 47th president of the United States.

However, online critics have turned that sentiment into a punchline, likening the structure to a Stonehenge knockoff. Attendees reported that the vinyl wrapping around the wooden frame was visibly deteriorating, with numerous "wrinkles" apparent. This mirrors Trump's failed renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which suffered from severe algae growth, peeling paint, and other significant issues.

The public's reaction to the "cheap" model stands out as particularly damaging. Despite these glaring shortcomings, President Trump posted a delusional account of the fair on Truth Social, claiming it was "packed" with happy visitors.

“Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it?” he wrote.

He further provoked critics by asking, “Ask yourself this simple question, ‘DO YOU THINK THAT OBUMA [sic] OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?’ THE ANSWER IS NO.”

The fair's initial vibrancy faded quickly as controversies led to last-minute withdrawals from artists and staffing booths. By Sunday, all that remained for visitors were the poorly constructed models.
