Trump's Great American State Fair Turnout Compared to Funerals Sparks Mockery

Jun 30 2026

Trump's Great American State Fair, launched on June 24, has drawn crowds so thin that comparisons to funeral attendance have erupted online.

Fox News has been all over the event, attempting to spin the turnout positively, but the reality is stark. Daily reports from the network show a fair that struggles to fill its grounds, leading to widespread mockery.

Footage from the "MAHA Monday at Great American State Fair" segment triggered a wave of ridicule on social media. Users flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to point out the glaring lack of attendees.

One user bluntly stated, "Trump's state fair is now open for the day and the crowd remains quite sparse," while another quipped, "I attended a funeral over the weekend with higher turnout, but the vibe was similar."

Comments continued to pour in, with one user questioning the very definition of "crowd," suggesting it was more of a "smattering of attendees." Another speculated about camera placements designed to create an illusion of liveliness, calling it "fake pleasantness" and "self-serving PR."

The Great American State Fair kicked off last week, but it has been marred by disappointment. The cancellation of Vanilla Ice's performance on June 26 due to bad weather only added to the negative sentiment.

Despite the dismal turnout, Karoline Leavitt, Trump's White House Press Secretary, claimed she had a great time at the fair. On June 28, she shared photos of herself and her one-year-old son Nicholas enjoying the event.

In one image, she cradled Nicholas in front of a Ferris wheel, while another captured him looking at caged chicks. She expressed excitement about experiencing America's 250th birthday and making lifelong memories during this "historic time."
