Trump's Mental Fitness Under Fire: Polls Show Declining Confidence Amidst Annual Exam
Polling reveals a staggering 51 percent of Americans believe Donald Trump’s mental faculties have declined since 2025, echoing concerns once aimed at Joe Biden. The president’s erratic speeches and bizarre tangents, dubbed “The Weave,” fuel fears about his cognitive state.
Trump is set to visit Walter Reed Medical Center for his annual physical, but it remains uncertain if he will undergo the cognitive tests he boasts about acing. His past results have failed to convince the public, with approval ratings languishing in the mid-30s.
Last year, Trump underwent a CT scan to check for cardiovascular issues during a second visit to Walter Reed. His health has been a topic of ridicule, even among allies like Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who mock his fast food habits. Trump will turn 80 in June.
Upon returning to the White House in 2025, Trump became the oldest person to assume the presidency, narrowly surpassing Biden’s record. His press availability has outpaced Biden’s, allowing him to project an image of vigor despite awkward moments during lengthy monologues.

His fixation on the construction of a new White House ballroom exemplifies this dynamic. Trump frequently highlights the project during press events and Cabinet meetings, often diverting discussions to his pet project while his aides shower him with praise.
In March, during an Oval Office event, Trump launched into a tirade against California Governor Gavin Newsom, veering into a defense of his own mental acuity while disparaging Newsom’s dyslexia as a sign of unintelligence.
“I’m the only president that ever took a cognitive test. I took it three times. It’s actually a very hard test for a lot of people. It wasn’t hard for me,” Trump asserted.
He elaborated on the test structure, claiming it starts easy but becomes increasingly difficult, featuring complex mathematical equations that stump many.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll from April indicates that only 25 percent of Americans view Trump as “even-tempered.” A Washington Post/Ipsos poll revealed just four in ten believe he possesses the necessary mental sharpness for the presidency, marking a seven-point drop in recent months.
Concerns about Trump’s physical health are also on the rise. This comes after Democrats urged Cabinet members to consider invoking the 25th Amendment following Trump’s alarming threats against Iran on social media. His statements have grown increasingly erratic as the promised swift resolution to conflict drags on.
Trust in the White House physician’s office is waning. Former White House doctor Jeffrey Kuhlman expressed skepticism about transparency regarding presidential health evaluations, citing a decade of deception from previous administrations.
A cardiologist who previously treated former Vice President Dick Cheney remarked that older individuals inevitably face health issues, emphasizing that Trump is nearing 80 years old.
