Trump's Spiritual Advisor Faces Outrage for Equating President's Struggles with Christ

During an Easter luncheon at the White House, Donald Trump’s spiritual advisor ignited controversy by likening the president’s experiences to those of Jesus Christ. Paula White-Cain, a prominent televangelist, made these remarks while addressing attendees, including Trump himself.

Standing before the audience, White-Cain asserted that the legal challenges and threats Trump has encountered mirror the trials faced by Christ. “Jesus taught so many lessons through his death, burial and resurrection. He showed us great leadership, great transformation requires great sacrifice,” she stated, turning to Trump as she spoke directly to him.

“And Mr. President, no one has paid the price like you have paid the price. It almost cost you your life,” she continued, drawing applause from the crowd. Her comments included a comparison of Trump’s alleged betrayals and accusations to those experienced by Jesus, suggesting a divine parallel.

“But it didn’t end there for him, and it didn’t end there for you,” she added, emphasizing a message of hope and resilience. “God always had a plan: On the third day, he rose, he defeated evil, he conquered death, hell and the grave. And because he rose, we all know that we can rise. And sir, because of his resurrection, you rose up,” she proclaimed.

As she concluded her speech, White-Cain declared, “Because he was victorious, you are victorious. And I believe that the Lord said to tell you this: because of his victory, you will be victorious in all you put your hands to.” The president responded with a smile and a simple “thank you.”

However, social media erupted with criticism following her remarks. Many users expressed outrage at the comparison. Catholic theologian Rich Raho described it as “blasphemous,” noting the presence of a US Bishop during the address. “It’s stunning to see a US Bishop standing right there on the stage while Paula White compares Trump to Jesus Christ,” he posted on X.

Another user, Syed Zada, remarked on the absurdity of leaders claiming messianic narratives in response to criticism: “If every leader who faced backlash started claiming a messianic arc, history would look like a Sunday school parody. Faith is sacred. Turning it into a campaign prop at a White House lunch isn’t divine. It’s theatrical.”

Further criticism came from another X user who stated, “As a Catholic, I find this woman completely sacrilegious and offensive on every possible level.” Political strategist Jeff Timmer added his voice to the dissent, labeling those involved as “freaks, liars, charlatans, grifters, criminals – anything but Christians.”

White-Cain has been a controversial figure since her official appointment in 2019 as a religious advisor under the Office of Public Liaison. Her connection with Trump dates back to 2002 when he reached out after seeing her on television. She has played a significant role in mobilizing evangelical support for Trump and was also chosen to speak at his inauguration in 2017.

Her history of contentious statements includes a 2020 sermon where she called for Jesus to “command all satanic pregnancies to miscarry.” Additionally, she has referred to the White House as “holy ground” and claimed that rejecting Trump equates to rejecting God.

Recently, she urged her followers to contribute “the first tenth of your gross income” to support her ministry and its initiatives, including projects in Israel.
