Donald Trump landed in Beijing, but the welcome mat was nowhere to be found. Instead, he faced a frosty reception from Chinese President Xi Jinping, and now the former president is reportedly seething.
Critics are having a field day, claiming Trump’s rage is directed at Barack Obama, who once enjoyed a warm welcome from Xi. “If you were to take some headlines out of this summit, America, I’m sure watched the reception,” Fox News’ Sean Hannity quipped during Trump’s first interview post-visit. The jab came as reports surfaced that Chinese citizens had dubbed Trump with a less-than-flattering nickname upon his arrival.
“He doesn’t respect Obama,” Trump interjected, “Nobody does, highly overrated, and he’s a divider.” This outburst followed his earlier social media tirade demanding Obama be “incarcerated” for treason. Talk about a meltdown!

But it didn’t stop there. Trump took aim at Joe Biden too, declaring him “the worst president in history” over border issues. Critics wasted no time firing back, reminding everyone that Xi had multiple significant meetings with Obama. “Xi Jinping’s first official state visit to the United States was to see Obama. Told y’all Trump and MAGAs are idiots,” one user on X pointed out.
“Trump can’t hide how insecure Obama continues to make him lmao,” another user chimed in. “Sometimes I hate it when people say Trump is unpredictable because I knew he was going to say this after arriving in China,” a third added.
Flashback to June 2013: Xi met Obama in California just months after taking office. Fast forward to 2015, and Xi returned for his first state visit to the U.S., again meeting with Obama. Contrast that with Trump’s experience—Xi was notably absent when Trump disembarked Air Force One in Beijing.

Critics argue that Trump’s frustration stems from jealousy, especially since he wasn’t personally greeted by Xi upon arrival. When Obama touched down in 2009, it was a different story; Xi, then vice president, was right there on the tarmac. “Trump is furious because Xi actually showed up to greet Obama at the airport instead of sending the ‘sorry busy’ package he got,” one user remarked, sharing an image of the iconic handshake.
“People don’t want to talk about the fact that Obama was actually respected,” another user commented. “MAGA is crying their eyes out right now!!!”
Some die-hard Trump supporters are pushing back, claiming he received a warmer welcome than Obama did during his state visit. They argue that Trump was given red-carpet treatment while Obama had to deal with stairs that didn’t even exist for him to exit his plane.
However, misleading posts on social media have been drawing comparisons between Trump’s state visit and Obama’s 2016 trip for the G20 summit—two completely different events. During his own state visit, Obama also enjoyed red-carpet treatment and descended from Air Force One via a main staircase, just like Trump did this week.
