Vernon Kay Slams Jeremy Vine with 'Get Over It' After Live Radio Snub

Jun 13 2026

Vernon Kay brutally told Jeremy Vine to "get over it" after Vine faced a humiliating snub live on air. This jab came during a playful exchange as Jeremy popped in towards the end of Vernon's show to tease his upcoming BBC Radio 2 segment.

In the midst of the banter, Jeremy asked if anyone in the studio was running a sweepstake for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which had just kicked off. He then dropped the bomb that he hadn’t been "invited" to participate.

Jeremy pressed on, "You’re doing a sweepstake, are you, for the football? I can’t remember... Are we doing one in the building or something?" Vernon confirmed that someone was indeed organizing it and questioned if Jeremy had a ticket.

Jeremy shot back, "Well, no, I haven’t been invited yet." The laughter erupted when Vernon's producer chimed in, clarifying it was for "staff only," prompting Jeremy to label it a "great response."

Vernon quipped, "How long you been here, Jeremy? How long you been at the BBC?" Jeremy proudly stated he had been at the Beeb for 39 years, calling the on-air snub the "best moment" and promising to "keep that one for Christmas."

Vernon explained that his producer meant "production staff only," but the incident clearly amused him. He laughed, "After forty years, Jeremy's been pied off," while Jeremy confirmed he joined in 1987.

Jeremy then outlined his show’s topic—gambling—while stressing that certain rules must be adhered to in order to keep sweepstakes from crossing into "realms of professional gambling."

He joked, "Is the staff only one going to be okay for that, do you think? I don’t know; I’m worried. I think maybe shut it down. Quick heads up, if Japan’s free, I want Japan." Vernon shot back, "You’re not staff; get over it."

This exchange followed Vernon's first on-air mention of Tess Daly since their split was announced in May after 23 years of marriage.

Shortly after the split was revealed, Vernon expressed gratitude on behalf of himself and Tess, saying, "Thank you, thank you, for all your well wishes; it’s been greatly, greatly appreciated." Reports indicate that the couple continues to live together.

Last month, he shared details about celebrating their daughter Amber's birthday alongside Tess. He recounted, "Yesterday, we were tidying up; Amber had a party."

"Tess and I were running around tidying up and thank goodness that the weather was nice, do you know what I mean, with cleaning up the garden."

"We had such a good time; it was awesome on Saturday night and very funny. But in the morning, Tess and I were like, 'Whoa, better get cracking!'"
