White Nationalist Patriot Front Stages July 4th March in D.C. Amidst Scorching Heat

Patriot Front, a white nationalist group, marched through the nation’s capital on July 4th, chanting “reclaim America” while brandishing American and Confederate flags in triple-digit heat.

Images show hundreds of uniformed members, many obscured by white masks and sunglasses, traveling by train and surrounding other passengers before beginning their march.

Approximately 400 individuals were seen marching in military formations, shouting slogans like “life, liberty, victory” as they paraded through D.C.

This group emerged after the deadly Unite the Right rally in 2017, advocating for a homogenous white ethnostate and perceiving immigration and multi-racial democracy as threats to their vision of America, according to the George Washington University Program on Extremism.

Patriot Front promotes the “great replacement” conspiracy theory, claiming a Democratic scheme to replace the white American electorate with non-white immigrants. They are notorious for their propaganda efforts, which include distributing flyers, staging marches, and vandalizing public art to spread their white nationalist ideology.

The Metropolitan Police Department reported no arrests during the event.

A spokeswoman stated that MPD acknowledges individuals' rights to express their views peacefully while ensuring public safety for residents and visitors.

Patriot Front has been linked to a significant portion of white supremacist propaganda since the violent events in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center classify Patriot Front as a hate group.

In recent years, the group has made its presence felt at various rallies and protests across the country. They were spotted marching in Virginia Beach over Memorial Day weekend.

In 2022, law enforcement in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, arrested 31 members who allegedly planned to disrupt an LGBT+ Pride event armed with shields, metal flag poles, and a smoke grenade. Members were seen organizing in military formations after emerging from a U-Haul truck.

That same year, around 100 members participated in a “flash demonstration” in downtown Boston, including group leader Thomas Rousseau. They carried fascist flags and a banner reading “Reclaim America.”

During this demonstration, Patriot Front members assaulted Charles Murrell III, using shields to push him onto the sidewalk and against a concrete light post. They knocked him to the ground and repeatedly hit and kicked him until law enforcement intervened, as detailed in a federal lawsuit.

In 2024, Murrell was awarded $775,000 for his injuries and $2,000,000 in punitive damages.

Right-wing figures have speculated that Patriot Front consists of federal agents and predicted the group would dissolve following Donald Trump’s election and FBI Director Kash Patel’s confirmation.

Last year, Republican Sen. Mike Lee posted on X, questioning if “Patriot Front” would vanish now that Kash Patel was confirmed as FBI Director.

He expressed hope that Patel would “fire the ‘Patriot Front’ wing of the FBI before tomorrow morning.”

Just two days after Patel’s confirmation, members marched around the Iowa Capitol Complex in Des Moines and rallied near the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

In response to allegations of being federal agents discussed on Joe Rogan’s podcast with Elon Musk last year, Patriot Front claimed that “Rogan and other social media influencers will have to invent increasingly elaborate narratives to justify PF’s continued activity despite their misinformed claims that PF has disbanded.”
