Bill Maher Threatens to Pull 2028 Vote as He Slams Democrats for Dodging His Show
Bill Maher declared his vote for the 2028 presidential election is “in play,” targeting high-profile Democrats like NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Kamala Harris for snubbing his show.
The HBO host, known for his liberal stance, issued a stark warning that he might withhold support from Democrats and moderates if the party veers further into socialism.
“If this is where the Democratic Party is going, where this Democratic socialist, this obsession with Israel, with the Jew hating, they don’t believe in capitalism, no prisons. If this is where they’re going, my vote is in play,” Maher told Vice President JD Vance.

Maher emphasized that he has consistently chosen candidates based on merit rather than party affiliation. “It actually always has been. Every year, I don’t make my decision by who has an R or a D; I actually always came to the conclusion that the Democrat was probably better and voted for them,” he stated.
While Maher couldn’t identify the next Democratic leader, he suggested Republicans would have a clearer choice ahead.
“So it’s either going to be you or Rubio,” Maher remarked to Vance, following a quip about Trump’s term limits.
During their discussion, Maher and Vance tackled pressing issues like Iran’s nuclear ambitions, immigration, and the Trump Administration.

Maher commended Vance for appearing on his show, noting the audience's warm reception. “I’m sure it’s the only applause I will get,” he joked.
“I’m just glad you’re talking to me, you know? I mean, I say it every time, the Republicans come here and they take their beating like a man,” Maher added.
“It’s the people I vote for; they’re the ones who won’t talk to me! That’s odd, isn’t it?” he questioned.

Vance inquired about the likelihood of Mamdani-backed Darializa Avila Chevalier making an appearance on the show soon.
Maher, who hosted comedian Larry Wilmore and Senator Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) on Friday’s episode, responded with a firm “No,” citing Mamdani, Harris, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s refusal to join him.
“I can’t get AOC, I can’t get Mamdani, I couldn’t get Kamala Harris. Took me eight years to get Obama!” Maher exclaimed.
Chevalier, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, recently defeated incumbent Rep. Adriano Espillat in the Democratic primary for New York's 13th Congressional District.

The community organizer emerged victorious alongside several Mamdani-backed candidates in New York's primaries.
In their interview, Maher and Vance also discussed the ongoing conflict with Iran. Vance asserted that America would prevail regardless of the outcome of negotiations with the Islamic Republic.
“If we don’t make the final deal, their nuclear program is still destroyed; they’re still much weaker as a country,” Vance stated. “So my attitude is America wins either way.”
Both Vance and Rubio have played significant roles in supporting the 80-year-old commander in chief, with Vance having traveled to Switzerland for critical meetings with Iranian officials.
