Brian Cox Transforms into Wheelchair-Bound Serial Killer for New Role

Jul 10 2026

Brian Cox, the 80-year-old actor, was spotted filming in a wheelchair for his role in the Paramount+ series Dexter: Resurrection, portraying Don Framt, known as "The New York Ripper." This character is a retired serial killer infamous for terrorizing Manhattan decades ago, now psychologically tormenting the survivors of his past crimes.

Recent images from the set in Astoria, New York City, reveal a drastically altered Brian Cox. He appeared in a motorized wheelchair, with long white hair, a mustache, and wire-rimmed glasses. Earlier this year, he publicly criticized President Donald Trump for "losing the plot."

On July 8, he was seen behind the glass of what looked like a local eatery, still in the wheelchair. He had also been photographed on June 29, wearing a white baseball cap and a stained polo shirt paired with dark slacks.

In some scenes, Cox shared the screen with Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter Morgan. The sequel series picks up after Dexter survives being shot by his son and explores his "second chance" at life.

Cox previously portrayed Dr. Hannibal Lecter in 1986's Manhunter. He discussed his approach to playing a serial killer in an interview, stating it began as just a job that unexpectedly gained cult status. He expressed surprise at its ongoing popularity.

Known for his role as Logan Roy in HBO's Succession from 2018 to 2023, Cox remarked on the nature of portraying villains. He noted that the true fear lies in how relatable such characters can be, making them all the more frightening.

In February, Cox condemned Trump as "disgusting" for unfounded claims about Scottish military forces during a conflict. He criticized the administration's erratic behavior and questioned Trump's ability to complete his term.

Cox stated, "I think we are in deep doo da actually," while receiving the Robert Burns Award at The St. Andrew's Society of Los Angeles' 96th Robert Burns Supper. Trump's comments about U.S. troops sparked international outrage when he suggested they led front-line fighting against the Taliban.

After British Prime Minister Keir Starmer labeled Trump's remarks as "appalling," Trump attempted to clarify on Truth Social, praising British soldiers and their sacrifices. However, Cox dismissed this reversal as "disgusting" and filled with lies.

He expressed disbelief at Trump's comments regarding military actions and criticized the administration's overall conduct as disgraceful.

“It is absolutely disgraceful,” Cox stated.
