British Commentator Labels Trump with a Term That Rhymes with 'Candy Rice'
On Monday, a British television commentator did not hold back when discussing a controversial image shared by Donald Trump, which depicted him in a manner reminiscent of Jesus Christ. Marina Purkiss, during her appearance on a talk show hosted by Jeremy Vine, expressed her shock and disapproval of the post.
“I’m just gonna say this, right? I am a person that was raised a Catholic — I did all the sacraments, I read the book, you know,” Purkiss stated, revealing her background while emphasizing her discontent with Trump's portrayal. Despite having distanced herself from her faith, she found the image “deeply, deeply offensive.”
Her criticism escalated as she labeled Trump as the “Antichrist,” a term that carries significant weight in religious discussions. “How dare you? That is blasphemous. The picture is blasphemous; it’s a huge disrespect. That in itself is the breaking of a commandment,” she asserted, highlighting her belief that Trump had violated multiple commandments.
Purkiss went on to claim that Trump had “broken eight of the 10 commandments,” reinforcing her stance with conviction. “This guy, in my opinion, is the Antichrist,” she declared emphatically. “No wonder he doesn’t like the pope,” she added, drawing connections between Trump's actions and his relationship with religious authority.
Later that morning, Trump removed the image from his social media account and explained to reporters that he believed it depicted him as a doctor rather than a religious figure. This post emerged amid ongoing tensions between Trump and Iran, which have drawn criticism from Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff of the Catholic Church.
While Trump's team has previously shared images portraying him as various iconic figures, including Superman and even as the pope himself, the Jesus-like depiction sparked outrage among many social media users who deemed it “blasphemous” and “deranged.”
Purkiss was not alone in her condemnation; other prominent figures also weighed in on Trump's controversial post. Jim VandeHei, co-founder of Axios, appeared on “Morning Joe” and refrained from using the term “Antichrist” but cautioned Trump about the potential backlash from his supporters. “I think he is playing with fire with the base. And if you look at where his standing is, like, he should be worried,” VandeHei remarked. He expressed surprise that Trump's advisers had not intervened to prevent such a provocative post, especially given his already low favorable ratings.
