CNN Analyst Unveils Theory on Trump's Bond with Joe Rogan Amidst Criticism

Apr 19 2026

CNN’s chief media analyst Brian Stelter shared insights on President Donald Trump’s relationship with podcaster Joe Rogan, noting the contrast with Trump’s treatment of other MAGA influencers who have voiced criticism regarding the war in Iran.

“Joe Rogan possesses a unique power and platform,” Stelter remarked on Saturday. “He doesn’t always present himself as overtly political like other podcasters. His entertainment value allows him to connect with a wider audience.”

Despite previously endorsing Trump for 2024, Rogan has intensified his critiques of the president, suggesting in December that Trump was “losing it.” His distancing from the MAGA base has been evident, as he labeled it “a movement of a bunch of fucking dorks” and controversially stated that Hillary Clinton was “more MAGA than MAGA.”

Rogan has also condemned Trump’s “insane” immigration raids and criticized the war in Iran, asserting that such actions contribute to feelings of betrayal among supporters.

This criticism aligns with sentiments expressed by other former Trump allies, including Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, who have also voiced discontent. However, Trump has publicly distanced himself from these figures, dismissing some as “Low IQ” individuals.

In an unexpected twist, Rogan appeared at the Oval Office on Saturday, standing behind Trump as he signed an executive order aimed at expediting the FDA's review of certain psychedelics designated for therapeutic use.

“We all respect Joe. He’s a little bit more liberal than I am,” Trump stated, eliciting laughter from reporters. “That’s OK. I have a lot of friends that are liberal. But Joe is an amazing guy.”

Stelter suggested that perhaps Trump believes it is wiser to keep Rogan close rather than alienate him. “It’s also a reminder that those who once endorsed Trump but later criticize him often find their way back,” Stelter added. “So while Rogan may critique the war in Iran, he has other motivations to defend Trump and even participate in an Oval Office photo opportunity.”
