CNN Host Slams Trump as 'Delusional' for Spouting Election Lies

Jul 17 2026

Donald Trump, the 80-year-old former president, spewed a torrent of unfounded claims about election fraud, prompting a CNN host to label him "delusional." His recent address from the White House on July 16 included assertions about releasing newly declassified documents that supposedly expose vulnerabilities in American election systems. He also accused China of attempting to sabotage his 2020 campaign.

Despite Trump's insistence on having evidence of widespread voter fraud, reports indicate that the declassified information fails to substantiate any claims of manipulated election results. He falsely asserted that thousands of undocumented immigrants participated in U.S. elections. However, the Heritage Foundation documented fewer than 100 instances of non-citizens voting from 2002 to 2022.

During Thursday night’s episode of CNN's The Story Is with Elex Michaelson, the panel dissected Trump's election fraud claims. Michaelson highlighted the inconsistency in Trump's narrative, noting that when he wins, there’s suddenly no cheating involved. He referenced the California election, where Trump claimed cheating occurred for one candidate but not for another Republican who also won.

Panelist Dina Doll responded sharply, stating, "That leads into delusional. Because he just spewed a bunch of lies, saying that somehow there’s hundreds of thousands of noncitizens on voter rolls." She cited the Heritage Foundation's findings, emphasizing that only 100 non-citizens voted out of a billion ballots cast between 2000 and 2022.

Doll further criticized Trump's claims about the safety and security of voting systems, pointing out that Fox News had to pay nearly a billion dollars due to a lack of evidence supporting such allegations. She warned that Trump's rhetoric is dangerous, as he directs the FBI and Department of Justice to investigate and potentially prosecute those involved in the 2020 elections. He even labeled major networks like ABC and NBC as part of a conspiracy and suggested they should lose their broadcasting licenses.

Doll characterized Trump's statements as "very dangerous stuff." Clips from the CNN broadcast circulated on X, where viewers quickly sided with Doll's assessment. One user expressed frustration, stating, "The thing about MAGA is that facts don’t matter. Trump dictates how reality is shaped and what they think." Another user demanded Trump's removal from office immediately.

A third viewer shared their experience at local polling places, asserting that there’s no way an illegal voter could gain access. They described poll workers as familiar faces from the community—neighbors, school bus drivers, church volunteers—who know them well enough to verify their identities.

Another user criticized MAGA supporters, claiming they are so brainwashed that facts hold no weight. They argued that anything contradicting MAGA groupthink is dismissed and met with lies and conspiracy theories.
