Colbert Calls Out Trump's $1 Billion Ballroom Scam

May 07 2026

“Late Show” kingpin Stephen Colbert didn’t hold back as he ripped into President Donald Trump’s outrageous claims about a $400 million White House ballroom, especially after Republicans shockingly tossed a whopping $1 billion into their latest reconciliation package.

“Let’s be real, a billion dollars is hard to fathom,” Colbert quipped. “So let me break it down: that is bulls**t. From day one, Trump has made one clear promise about his ballroom.”

Then came the kicker—a supercut of Trump’s own words, swearing that not a single taxpayer dime would fund this lavish project.

“By the way, zero money spent by the government, zero,” Trump boasted in one clip.

“It’s all donations, rich people and people are putting up the money, zero taxpayer dollars,” he insisted in another.

“How ironic,” Colbert shot back. “To lie that blatantly takes a lot of balls. And he still hasn’t built the room to store them.”

In the wake of an apparent assassination attempt during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, Trump has ramped up his rhetoric, claiming the ballroom is essential for security. Congressional Republicans are riding this wave of fear, pushing through that jaw-dropping $1 billion request for the ballroom.

With the reconciliation package needing just a simple majority in the Senate to sail through—no filibuster in sight—Trump’s extravagant wish is likely to become a reality.
