Jake Tapper Exposes Trump’s Hypocrisy on Free Speech and Press
Donald Trump’s claims about supporting free speech and the press are a blatant contradiction, as highlighted by CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Tapper showcased a video of Trump asserting his desire for “total freedom of the press” and declaring, “if we don’t have free speech, then we just don’t have a free country.”
With a sharp retort, Tapper remarked, “Welllll, Mr. First Amendment has turned out to be anything but.”
He pointed out that Trump has actively targeted free speech, mentioning figures like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. However, his attacks on press freedom are even more direct and personal.
Just last week, the Justice Department issued subpoenas to four journalists from the New York Times following their report on safety issues regarding the president’s Qatari-gifted Air Force One plane.
Tapper also noted the irony in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth launching a task force aimed at cracking down on leakers at the Pentagon, despite his own involvement in the Signal-gate scandal.
Targeting journalists is “just downright un-American,” Tapper stated, calling it part of a troubling pattern of escalating attacks on the press. He referenced previous incidents, including the Trump administration’s ban on Associated Press reporters for refusing to label the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
