Kimmel Highlights Trump's Unusual Obsession with Wind Turbines

Mar 19 2026

On Wednesday, Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump's peculiar fixation on wind turbines, dubbing it potentially the "craziest thing" about the former president.

Kimmel ridiculed Trump’s intense focus on what he deems critical issues, specifically targeting windmills. This commentary came in light of reports suggesting that the Biden administration is contemplating a $1 billion payout to French energy giant TotalEnergies to terminate its leases for wind farms off the coasts of New York and North Carolina.

“A billion dollars of our money to cancel projects that harness an endless resource, wind. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of math that bankrupts casinos,” Kimmel quipped, highlighting the absurdity of the situation.

He elaborated, “If the New York wind farm were completed, it could generate enough electricity to power a million homes and businesses with free renewable energy every year. So, of course, it has to be stopped.”

“This might be the craziest thing about him,” Kimmel remarked, pointing out Trump’s long-standing grudge against what he refers to as windmills. This animosity traces back two decades when Trump purchased land along Scotland's coast to develop a golf course, only to discover an offshore wind farm was being constructed nearby, obstructing his view.

“He sued and sued and sued, which is what he does, and he lost, which is also what he does. He even had to pay the Scottish government’s legal costs. Since then, he’s harbored this grudge against these random inanimate objects he calls windmills. It’s akin to declaring war against lighthouses,” Kimmel explained.
