Lara Trump Ridiculed for Highlighting Trump's Assassination Attempt and Hat

Jul 24 2026

Lara Trump drew ridicule after she disclosed a trivial detail regarding the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.

In a segment titled "Lara Trump: Wanted For Questioning" on her show, the Fox News host responded to a question about whether the hat and suit worn by Trump during the assassination attempt would be displayed in a museum or his presidential library.

She recounted the chaos following the assassination attempt while Trump was campaigning near Butler, Pennsylvania, as the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 election. Social media reactions were overwhelmingly negative. This follows previous criticism of Lara's parenting comments.

One critic quipped about the hat, suggesting it might be "lost in the conspiracy closet, right next to the missing votes." Another user expressed distrust in the Trump family, accusing them of being involved in "grifting, stealing, and cheating."

A third user bluntly stated, "No one gives a fuuuuuuu-k. Trump’s a sellout. Pass it on," while another voiced concern over ongoing investigations instead of the hat's whereabouts. A fifth commenter dismissed the hat as irrelevant to a "fake stunt." Yet another user expressed indifference, stating, "Could care less. Fake."

Criticism extended to the show itself, with one viewer questioning its legitimacy: "There’s no way that actual humans watch this… show? What even is this?" Others targeted Lara's appearance.

One comment read, "Lara, you seem so nice and normal, but... I feel the Trump women are acting more like a reality show now... please consider. We want to respect you guys." Another harshly stated, "You’re hideous. Go off camera."

Despite the backlash, some supporters praised Lara, with one saying, "Your Q/A sessions are always amazing," and another thanking her for addressing popular questions.

In her remarks about the assassination attempt, Lara described the aftermath as "total chaos," recalling how jarring it was for her family and the world. She mentioned being in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention shortly after the event.

Lara recalled a conversation with Dan Scavino about preserving Trump's hat from that day, emphasizing its significance as part of their story. She expressed confidence that both the hat and suit would eventually be part of Trump's presidential library.

During the rally near Butler, Trump was shot in his upper right ear by 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, who fired eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle from a nearby building.

As Secret Service agents shielded him, Trump dropped to the ground but later raised his fist and urged the crowd to "Fight, fight, fight." Bandaged from his injuries, he accepted the GOP presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention, where he spoke about the assassination attempt.

Trump stated, "I’m not supposed to be here tonight. There was blood pouring everywhere, yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side."

He also called for a moment of silence for Corey Comperatore, a retired fire chief killed at the rally. Trump emphasized the need for healing societal discord and division: "As Americans, we are bound together by a single fate and a shared destiny. We rise together. Or we fall apart."

Trump declared his intention to run for president for all Americans: "I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America."
