NYC Erupts in Mayhem: 63 Arrested, 4 Stabbings, and 1 Shooting Amid Knicks Celebration

The streets of New York City turned into a battleground as Knicks fans unleashed chaos following the NBA Finals victory, resulting in 63 arrests and 10 police officers injured. The mayhem included the destruction of NYPD vehicles and the burning of FIFA buses in Times Square.

Among the chaos, a 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the foot, while four others were stabbed. The NYPD confirmed that at least 15 individuals faced criminal charges for their actions during the wild celebration.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani commented on the situation, stating, “The vast majority of New Yorkers celebrated appropriately. There were some who did not.”

He emphasized the city’s zero-tolerance policy for violence, asserting that no level of excitement justifies aggression against police or civilians. “I appreciate the men and women of the NYPD for keeping our city safe,” he added.

Charges against the unruly crowd included assault on a police officer by a 28-year-old from Arlington, Texas, along with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration.

Shocking footage captured the crowd attacking yellow school buses designated for soccer fans heading to FIFA World Cup games, with one bus completely engulfed in flames.

Hooligans targeted NYPD vehicles with bats, ignited fireworks amidst throngs of people, and blocked traffic on multiple streets. Several fights erupted as tensions escalated.

The injured 17-year-old reported to police that he was riding a CitiBike when he was shot at West 42nd Street and Broadway. Law enforcement sources indicated that he was uncooperative during the investigation.

He was transported to Bellevue Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. Three individuals were detained in connection with the shooting, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Amidst the chaos, one fan expressed fear for his friends, shouting in distress. Another woman captured on video lamented the destruction of public property, stating, “You know, our taxpayer dollars go to public schools, right?”

Governor Kathy Hochul addressed reporters, expressing disappointment over the violence. “It’s a shame,” she said. “The vast, vast, vast majority of people who came out to celebrate did so peacefully.”

She acknowledged the NYPD’s swift response but noted that a few individuals always seem intent on ruining celebrations for others.

“There’s always some people who mar it for others,” she concluded.
