Pharmacy Credentials Turned Weapon in Heated RFK Vaccine Debate
“Remember your pharmacy credentials!” Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) fired back at Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) during a heated debate about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s controversial vaccine stance.
On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Auchincloss didn’t hold back, accusing Kennedy of spearheading an “anti-vax crusade” while leading Health and Human Services. He demanded a House investigation into whether Kennedy's radical changes to vaccine policy were linked to the alarming rise in measles and whooping cough cases.
Carter, who sits on the House Health subcommittee with Auchincloss, acknowledged the surge in preventable diseases warranted scrutiny but refused to lay blame at Kennedy's feet.
“I believe RFK Jr. is doing his job, and I applaud him for doing his job,” Carter declared, leaving Auchincloss visibly stunned that a pharmacist would back Kennedy.
As the debate heated up, Carter argued that vaccine mandates during the pandemic were an infringement on personal freedom and bodily autonomy. Auchincloss pressed him, questioning if he was denying the safety and efficacy of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine.
“We cannot force people into doing things; we have to give them a choice, based on education,” Carter responded, though he later admitted he “obviously” believes the vaccines are safe and effective.
When Auchincloss challenged Carter to publicly endorse the vaccine to parents, the Georgia lawmaker doubled down on his individual liberty stance.
“You know this is the kind of rhetoric that we hear from the Democratic Party that causes people to be upset,” he retorted, igniting further tension in the already charged atmosphere.
