Prince Harry's Invictus Games on the Brink of Collapse

Jul 10 2026

Prince Harry's Invictus Games teeters on the edge of cancellation, a shocking reality despite his relentless push for funding and support. The Duke of Sussex is currently in the UK to launch the official "One Year to Go" countdown for the event set for next July in Birmingham.

On the Daily Expresso podcast, presenter JJ Anisiobi revealed that insiders suggest the event, aimed at wounded, injured, or sick military personnel and veterans, "could get cancelled." He noted that while the concept of Invictus started strong, its funding model has shifted dramatically. Sponsorship used to be the primary source of funding, but now it heavily relies on the host country.

The UK government has underwritten £26 million for next year's Invictus Games, but that money hinges on Invictus raising sufficient funds to proceed. Currently, only about £3 million of that £26 million has been released, leaving a significant gap that must be filled before the games can go ahead.

Funding efforts are faltering. Boeing, a major corporate player, has already pulled out as a sponsor, marking a significant loss for the event. This withdrawal raises serious concerns about the financial viability of the games.

Harry's trip to the UK aims to drum up enthusiasm and financial backing for the competition, but so far, his attempts have yielded little success. The Birmingham organizing committee is scrambling to find commercial partners and has launched a sponsorship program to attract businesses. They are now reaching out to local Birmingham companies for support, a stark contrast to previous high-profile sponsors like Jaguar and Boeing.

Presenter Mark Dolan described the situation as "a nightmare on wheels," emphasizing the dire implications for Harry, stating, "this is all he's got... Invictus is Harry, Harry is Invictus."

Recently, Prince Harry attended an event at Chatham House in London hosted by the Invictus Games Foundation, where he delivered a speech highlighting the event's significance. He plans to travel to Birmingham to participate in events celebrating the countdown to the games.

Initially intending to bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, Harry ultimately decided to make the trip alone due to ongoing security disputes. His arrival coincided with a High Court ruling against his privacy lawsuit involving Associated Newspapers Ltd.

Prince Harry's team has been approached for comment.
