Ransom Canyon Cast Shake-Up: Shocking Exits and Surprising Returns for Season 2

Jun 25 2026

Netflix’s Ransom Canyon is back for a second season, but brace yourself—key players are dropping out like flies.

The series, adapted from Jodi Thomas’ novels, dives into a world of ranching drama and tangled romances. The first season showcased Staten, a rancher played by Josh Duhamel, grappling with profound losses while navigating a complicated relationship with childhood friend Quinn, portrayed by Minka Kelly. Complicating matters further, Staten’s brother-in-law Davis, played by Eoin Macken, also has his sights set on Quinn.

Newcomer Yancy, played by Jack Schumacher, harbored secrets from Ellie, portrayed by Marianly Tejada. Meanwhile, high schoolers Lucas, Lauren, and Reid formed another love triangle that kept viewers on edge.

With unanswered questions lingering from season one, Netflix’s renewal for a second season has fans buzzing with anticipation.

Creator April Blair revealed in April 2025 that the writers' room is already buzzing with ideas. “Quinn’s going to go off to New York and come back. How is Staten going to win her back if he’s still haunted?” she stated. The unresolved mystery surrounding Staten’s son’s death looms large over the narrative.

Blair confirmed that the finale's revelations will shape season two's trajectory. “We wanted to find some closure with that, and also, who was behind it opens up a whole new series of relationship drama between Lucas and Lauren,” she explained. “So it gives us a lot of runway in other stories as well.”

Josh Duhamel is expected to return. He mentioned in June that the writing team has been hard at work crafting the next chapter. “April Blair does an amazing job with running the show so I’d imagine they’re coming up with something fun,” he said.

Minka Kelly will reprise her role as Quinn but her time in New York won’t be featured. Blair noted, “Quinn needs to go away and save her ranch,” hinting at significant plot developments involving Davis and Staten’s father.

Eoin Macken’s return as Davis was uncertain; news broke in September 2025 that he wouldn’t be back as a series regular. Wilson Bethel expressed interest in the role, stating he auditioned for the love triangle but left the door open for future appearances.

Lizzy Greene hinted at the potential for more love triangles in season two. “Things are set up where everyone is in a love triangle in season one because it opens the door for the audience to say what they like,” she teased.

Garrett Wareing expressed curiosity about Lucas and Lauren’s future. “What does it look like when we don’t see them happy and when we are facing real-world hardship?” he pondered. “Lucas loves Lauren so much that his dream wouldn’t be complete without her.”

Marianly Tejada’s character Ellie faced a cliffhanger involving Yancy’s wife. Blair shared an anecdote about casting Erica Dasher for a brief appearance, teasing a juicy backstory for Yancy’s wife in season two.

Jack Schumacher’s Yancy was left with unresolved personal issues at the end of season one. He praised the show’s unique blend of romance and Western elements, emphasizing its distinct identity amidst comparisons to other series.

Andrew Liner hinted at Reid’s potential descent into chaos in season two. “He should have never gone against his family,” he remarked, indicating deeper family dynamics will be explored.

After production began on season two, Liner's exit was confirmed, leaving fans speculating about Reid's fate.

James Brolin’s character Cap met his end in the season one finale, leading to fan speculation about his son Josh Brolin stepping into a new role.

Patricia Clarkson will join the cast as Quinn’s mother upon her return from New York.

Steve Howey has been confirmed as a recurring guest star, portraying Staten’s half-brother Levi, described as “a mountain man of sorts who lives off the land.”
