Rod Stewart Calls Trump a 'Ratbag' in Fiery Exchange with King Charles

May 12 2026

Rod Stewart unleashed his disdain for Donald Trump, labeling the former president a "ratbag" during a recent royal gathering. The 81-year-old rock legend made his feelings known while chatting with King Charles III at an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust on May 11.

Amidst the grandeur of London’s Royal Albert Hall, where Charles and Queen Camilla were also present, Stewart seized the moment to commend the King on his recent U.S. visit. But it was his pointed jab at Trump that stole the spotlight.

In a video capturing their exchange, Stewart reportedly praised Charles, saying, "May I say, well done in the Americas. You were superb. Absolutely superb. You put that little ratbag in his place....” The comment drew laughter from the King, who appeared to chuckle at the remark, though his response remains a mystery.

This isn’t the first time Stewart has taken aim at Trump. Earlier this year, he blasted the ex-reality star on social media after Trump claimed British and NATO forces were cowardly in Afghanistan. The backlash was swift, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and various organizations denouncing Trump’s comments.

Stewart didn’t hold back in a video response, stating, "I may just be a humble rock star. I’m also a knight of the realm and I have my opinions." He expressed deep hurt over Trump’s remarks about British troops, emphasizing the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.

"We lost over 400 of our guys. Think of their parents. Think about it and Trump calls 'em almost like cowards. It’s unbearable," he continued, urging Starmer and Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage to demand an apology from Trump.

Wrapping up his passionate plea with a salute, Stewart declared, "Take a stand" and "Thank You," leaving no doubt about his feelings towards the former president.

Meanwhile, King Charles and Camilla recently concluded a four-day U.S. visit from April 27 to 30, where they were welcomed by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The royal couple toured Washington, D.C., Virginia, and New York City, with Charles delivering an address to Congress and presenting Trump with a historic brass conning tower bell from HMS Trump, a British WWII submarine.
