Texas High School Shooting: Student Opens Fire on Teacher, Takes His Own Life

BULVERDE, Texas — A tragic shooting incident occurred at Hill Country College Preparatory High School, where a student shot a teacher before fatally shooting himself, according to local authorities.

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the event via social media, stating that the shooting took place in Bulverde. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported, but the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

The injured teacher was transported to a hospital in San Antonio; however, updates on her condition have not been provided. The 15-year-old male student was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

In response to the incident, the school was placed on lockdown. Students were later bused to a nearby middle school, where anxious parents formed long lines, some praying for their children's safety as they awaited reunification.

Parent Jesse Lopez expressed his concerns about his daughter’s return to school, noting her autism and the fear she may experience. “For one, she has autism, and she’ll be afraid to go back, she’ll be real afraid to go back,” he shared with local media.

As Texas implements stricter regulations on cell phone usage in schools, Sarah Valdez, a mother of a freshman at Hill Country College Preparatory High School, felt compelled to reach out to her son despite knowing the rules. “All I wanted to do was hear from my son after learning the school was on lockdown,” she recounted.

Hill Country College Preparatory High School, part of the Comal Independent School District, emphasizes academic excellence and prepares students for college through a STEAM-focused curriculum that includes science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The school opened its doors in August 2020 with a freshman class and has since expanded to serve grades nine through twelve, currently enrolling approximately 260 students this academic year.
