Trump Declares Unprecedented Popularity Amidst Dismal Polling Data
During a Thursday interview with Fox News’s The Five, President Donald Trump asserted that his popularity has soared to unprecedented levels throughout his political career, a claim that starkly contrasts with recent polling data indicating widespread disapproval among American voters.
In a conversation that meandered through various topics, Trump made this bold statement shortly after extending a deadline for negotiations with Iran via a post on Truth Social. He pointed to a CNN poll suggesting he enjoys 100 percent approval among the “MAGA” segment of the Republican Party, asserting that his movement encapsulates the entire party.
“I hate Fox polls. Honestly, whoever does your polls are terrible,” Trump remarked, criticizing the well-regarded Fox News poll that recently revealed 59 percent of Americans disapprove of his performance as president. “Rupert Murdoch has promised me for years he's going to get rid of your pollster, but he doesn't do it. I don't get it, but your Fox polls are terrible,” he added.
Despite acknowledging the legal limitations preventing him from seeking a third term, Trump claimed that “good pollsters” indicate he is “leading by a lot and leading every candidate” in hypothetical matchups for the 2028 presidential race. “I would love to run — some things you can't do in life, I guess ... but we're very popular,” he stated.

However, the reality paints a different picture. Amid soaring gas prices and extensive airport delays linked to his administration's actions regarding Iran and the prolonged shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, Trump's approval ratings have plummeted.
The Fox poll indicated a record low approval rating among Republicans at 84 percent, down from 92 percent the previous month, with 16 percent expressing disapproval. Additionally, the 59 percent disapproval rating marks a low point for Trump's second term, with only 41 percent of respondents supporting his agenda—significantly lower than the 49 percent approval recorded in a similar poll last year.
Concerns about Trump's foreign policy are also evident; 62 percent of respondents disapproved of his handling of international affairs, while 64 percent specifically disapproved of his Iran policy. A separate poll from Reuters last week reported an even lower approval rating of 36 percent for the president. Furthermore, an Associated Press/NORC poll revealed that six in ten Americans believe the ongoing conflict with Iran has escalated too far, with a significant majority opposing the deployment of American troops in the region.
