Trump Escapes Turkey on Aging Air Force One Amid Iranian Missile Threat
President Trump abandoned the newer Air Force One jet, a $400 million Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar, opting instead for the older model after U.S. intelligence uncovered a credible plot from Iran and its proxies to target his plane with a missile.
U.S. officials confirmed the alarming threat, prompting the Secret Service to implement an emergency backup plan. The decision to switch aircraft came swiftly in response to the intelligence received.
The initial report of these threats emerged from a major news outlet, highlighting the gravity of the situation surrounding the president's safety.
Trump had arrived in Ankara on the newly retrofitted Air Force One but departed for the United Kingdom on the older model. He later returned to the U.S. on the newer aircraft, raising eyebrows about the security protocols in place for the president's travel.
Concerns about the new plane's security capabilities surfaced as CBS News reported that the older Air Force One is equipped with advanced laser technology designed to blind incoming missiles, potentially misdirecting them. The specific defensive systems aboard the Qatari jet remain unclear.
In light of ongoing tensions with Iran, the White House announced that Trump would continue using the older plane while upgrades are made to the new 747. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the new Air Force One is safe but will undergo enhancements that will take about a month.
Trump remarked that the older plane possesses significant capabilities but will be further optimized in the coming weeks.
As hostilities with Iran escalate, Trump has openly acknowledged threats to his safety. He recently declared on Truth Social that 1,000 missiles are "Locked and Loaded" for immediate deployment should Iran attempt an assassination.
"Orders have already been given, and the U.S. Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran," Trump stated.
