Trump Loses Composure Over Kharg Island Inquiry During Interview
During a Fox News interview on Friday, President Donald Trump exhibited visible agitation when host Brian Kilmeade broached the topic of a potential military strike on Iran’s Kharg Island. This discussion took place just hours before the U.S. executed airstrikes on the island.
The interview, recorded Thursday and broadcast Friday, revisited Trump's past remarks from the 1980s regarding Kharg Island and posed a hypothetical scenario about U.S. responses to Iranian aggression against American assets.
“Now, here in 2026, you are president, are you thinking about taking Kharg Island, where 90% of the Iranian oil goes through?” Kilmeade queried. “Do you remember that interview and that school of thought?”
Trump's reaction was immediate and intense.
“Brian, I can’t answer a question like that, and you shouldn’t be even asking it,” he retorted. “It’s one of so many different things; it’s not high on the list, but it’s one of so many different things, and I can change my mind in seconds. But you know, for you to ask a question, who would answer a question like that?”
Continuing his tirade, Trump expressed disbelief at the nature of the inquiry. “I mean, you’re asking me a question. Kharg Island. OK. Who would ask a question like that? And what fool would answer it?” he said. “Let’s say I was gonna do it, or let’s say I wasn’t gonna do it. Why would I tell you, ‘Oh, yes, Brian. I’m thinking about doing it, let me know what time and when it will take place.’ It’s sort of a foolish question.”
Later that evening, Trump took to social media to announce that the U.S. had indeed conducted strikes on Kharg Island. “Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island,” he stated.
He clarified that while the strikes did not target oil infrastructure on the island, he warned, “should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision.”
