Trump's Portrait of Himself Sparks Kim Jong Un Comparisons in Bizarre Interview

Jun 01 2026

Donald Trump’s interview with Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, featured a massive portrait of himself that has drawn comparisons to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

The 79-year-old president sat down with Lara Trump for a friendly chat released on Saturday, positioned in the Grand Foyer of the White House.

Behind them loomed a large painting depicting Trump raising his right fist, blood splattered across his face, following an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania back in 2024. Security agents surrounded him as an American flag waved ominously in the background.

Critics quickly seized on the portrait's placement. Independent journalist Aaron Rupar remarked, "Trump's Fox News interview with his daughter-in-law is taking place in front of a giant portrait of himself. Kim Jong Un would blush."

One user on X slammed the scene, stating, "The level of sycophancy from these groveling MAGA goons is just what you’d expect from a dictator’s inner circle of sniveling little toads." Another chimed in, "When the backdrop looks more like a shrine than a newsroom, even Kim Jong Un might take notes."

A third critic lamented, "This is why we will forever be the laughingstock of the world." The portrait replaced an official image of former President Barack Obama.

This painting bears a striking resemblance to one gifted to Trump by Russian President Vladimir Putin in March last year. That artwork also captured the moment Trump raised his fist with blood on his face during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024, featuring the Statue of Liberty in the background.

During the interview, Trump discussed various topics, including the ongoing war in Iran and his controversial renovations to the White House ballroom.

Trump went off on tangents, claiming, "people don’t know that dumb ends with B," which led viewers to label him an "ignorant pig." Lara Trump received a tour of the White House during their conversation.

Trump showcased the Presidential Walk of Fame, a gallery he installed in September 2025. "This is, look, solid brass," he boasted.

He pointed out the Presidential Walk of Fame sign, emphasizing, "Same thing with this. This is all solid, beautiful solid brass."

On Iran, Trump stated: "There’s no deal that’s good enough because the media will cover it, and we’re making a great deal, we’re gonna make a great deal. Otherwise, we’ll just go back and finish it off militarily."

He added: "But this would go faster; it’s probably better on a humane standpoint. There’s something nice about it also; you save a lot of lives, whether it’s the other side or not you save a lot of lives. But we’re close to a very good deal and we can make it good; otherwise we just start up with the Department of War as we call it."
