Trump's State Fair Disaster: Empty Grounds and Desperate Pleas

Jun 25 2026

President Donald Trump’s nightmare unfolded as the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair opened to a ghost town, confirming his worst fears about attendance.

The opening day was a bust, with practically no one showing up. The National Mall, transformed into a showcase for states and territories, became a desolate landscape.

Upon arrival, the scene was bleak. The Freedom 250 event had virtually no participants. A few tourists navigated the extensive security measures, but the atmosphere echoed Trump’s own words about America being a “dead” country.

A massive cluster of people gathered near the Ferris wheel, the only attraction drawing any attention aside from a poorly organized rodeo pen. The fairgrounds were mostly empty. One passerby remarked, “There are more news cameras here than people.”

That statement rang true. Despite hopes that crowds might swell as night fell, the reality was stark. The only significant gathering occurred during the rodeo, where older attendees rushed to the fence for a closer view.

Adding to the embarrassment, an entire section dedicated to U.S. territories was devoid of visitors, save for a few exiting an exhibit.

A staff member from Freedom 250 claimed, “For a Thursday, it’s a decent crowd.” However, the vast stretches of open grass painted a grim picture for the 16-day festival, already marred by humiliation after performers dropped out, forcing Trump to take center stage himself.

Trump’s anxiety extended beyond the fair. Reports indicated he feared low turnout for his speech on July 4th, marking America’s 250th anniversary. Addressing loyal supporters, he urged them to attend to avoid media backlash over empty seats.

“Then, on July 4th, we will have the greatest show of all on the National Mall. Your favorite president will be speaking. So please show up. Because if we have two empty seats, you know what’s gonna happen? The fake news is gonna say he didn’t fill out the arena,” he stated.

Social media users wasted no time mocking Trump’s desperate calls for attendance. Many expressed disinterest in tuning in to his anniversary speech.

“Can you imagine spending your 4th of July listening to him?” one user quipped. “‘I know more about everything than anybody.... Me me me me.. Obama.... Biden... I’m the victim’ and repeat. No, thank you!”

Another user chimed in, “For the first time in my life, we have a president who is unlistenable.”
