Trump Unveils Psychedelics Executive Order with Joe Rogan in Tow, Cracks Joke About Trying Them
During a recent Oval Office event, President Trump lightened the mood with a quip about wanting to experience psychedelics, coinciding with the signing of an executive order aimed at enhancing medical treatments for severe mental health issues.
The Saturday morning gathering featured Joe Rogan, a prominent podcaster known for his advocacy of psychedelic therapies, despite his recent criticisms of Trump’s military actions in Iran.
Trump highlighted the potential of ibogaine, a Schedule I controlled substance, referencing a study that suggested participants saw an “80 to 90 percent reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety within one month.”
“Can I have some, please?” Trump joked, eliciting laughter from those present. “I’ll do whatever it takes…I don’t have time to be depressed. If you stay busy enough, maybe that’s what works too, that’s what I do.”
Rogan, who has endorsed Trump for the 2024 presidential race, revealed that the executive order was prompted by a text he sent to the president regarding psychedelic treatments.
Advocates for veterans and psychedelics have long argued that ibogaine, derived from a West African shrub, holds significant promise for treating conditions like PTSD and opioid addiction.

Retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell shared his personal transformation with ibogaine during the event, stating it changed his life “for the better.”
“You’re going to save a lot of lives with it,” Luttrell expressed to Trump. “I’d like to say how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to go through the program and receive the Ibogaine.”
Rogan recounted how quickly the initiative gained traction after he reached out to Trump. “I sent President Trump some information… the text message that came back: ‘Sounds great. Do you want FDA approval? Let's do it,’” he claimed. “It was literally that quick.”
Trump assured attendees that he consulted with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other administration officials before proceeding. “I didn't just do it,” he clarified.
The president also took a jab at Rogan’s liberal stance after the podcaster criticized Trump’s military strategy in Iran on his show. “Anytime you’re involved with shooting missiles into towns and blowing things up… How is this still going on?” Rogan questioned.
“We all respect Joe,” Trump remarked. “He’s a little bit more liberal than me and that’s okay.”

This week, Rogan humorously addressed Trump’s claim regarding an AI-generated image he posted on Truth Social, which depicted him as a doctor rather than Jesus.
Rogan attended the White House event following his efforts to raise awareness about ibogaine on his podcast, where he hosted former Texas Governor Rick Perry, who advocates for reducing federal restrictions on the drug.
The administration is now moving forward with plans to facilitate access to psychedelics that federal regulators have already identified as potential breakthroughs.
However, clinic owners caution that the effects of the executive order will not be immediate. “There will be no insurance coverage; it will still be considered unapproved and non-covered care,” stated Tom Feegel of Beond Ibogaine, which operates a clinic in Cancun, Mexico. “But what it does mean is that ibogaine shifts from being fringe and underground to being federally acknowledged.”
