Barron Trump Breaks Disturbing News to Donald: Charlie Kirk Assassinated
Barron Trump, in a state of distress, was the first to inform his father, Donald Trump, about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, as revealed in the new book 'Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump' by Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman.
The shooting occurred on September 10, 2025, during a debate at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was shot in the neck. Tyler Robinson, 23, was arrested days later and charged with aggravated murder.
As news of the shooting spread rapidly on social media, key figures in the MAGA movement were scrambling for information. A Signal group chat buzzed with names like Donald Trump Jr. and JD Vance, but Kirk's condition remained unclear.
White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich attempted to contact hospitals in Utah for updates while Donald Trump was in a meeting with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Before Budowich could relay any information, Barron had already reached out to his father. “Trump’s youngest son, Barron, had already called to tell his father that Kirk had been shot,” the authors wrote. The 19-year-old was a fan of Kirk and expressed concern over potential threats to his father.
Donald Trump has faced assassination attempts before, including being shot at during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, leading up to the 2024 election.
“This is what happens when you go out there,” Barron reportedly told his father. “This is what happened.”
In response, Trump attempted to soothe his son, saying: “calm down, honey, calm down.” The book notes that Trump himself appeared visibly shaken.
“Man. Charlie,” he said. “He’s such a good guy. He really helped me out in 2024. He got the youth vote.”

After requesting to see footage of the shooting, Trump reacted with horror: “It’s horrible. Poor Charlie.”
Following the incident, Trump recounted how Barron had introduced him to Kirk during an appearance on Fox & Friends.
“Barron came to me. And he said dad, ‘I’d like to meet somebody that you know.’ ‘Who?’ ‘Charlie Kirk,’ ” Trump recalled. “I said, ‘What?’ You know, I thought he was going to say, ‘I want to meet like King Charles’ or something.”
Trump arranged a lunch between Barron and Kirk. Afterward, Barron returned with praise: “That guy’s great, dad. That guy’s great.”
Trump described the moment as “cute,” adding: “He’s unbelievable. I don’t know what it was.”
