Karoline Leavitt Humiliated After Misleading Poll Claims on Trump’s Iran Deal
Karoline Leavitt, the 28-year-old White House press secretary, took a hit on social media after she boasted about a poll that backfired spectacularly. She posted on X, claiming broad support for Donald Trump’s Iran deal, but the numbers tell a different story.
Leavitt highlighted findings from an Economist/YouGov poll, stating, “Poll: Broad Support for Key Objectives in Trump’s Peace Deal with Iran.” However, buried in the data was a stark reality: a majority of respondents believed the deal would likely collapse. Trump has been under fire for his inconsistent stance on the war in Iran.

The proposed memorandum of understanding with Iran includes an immediate ceasefire, de-escalation measures in Lebanon, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It also sets a 60-day window to negotiate a more permanent peace deal, which would involve nuclear inspections and potential lifting of U.S. sanctions, along with a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran.
Leavitt pointed to 69% of poll participants supporting the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days with “toll-free commercial passage.” The same percentage agreed that Iran should not develop nuclear weapons. Yet, when asked about the deal itself, fewer than one-third expressed support, while 44% were uncertain.
A staggering 81% of respondents believed it was either “very” or “somewhat” likely that the deal would fail and the war would reignite. Among self-identified “MAGA-supporters,” this figure was still high at 71%. Among Republicans overall, support for the deal dropped to 75% uncertainty.

Only 25% of Americans felt the U.S. had won the conflict with Iran. In contrast, 22% believed Iran emerged victorious, while 41% thought neither side had succeeded. This paints a grim picture for Leavitt’s claims.
Critics wasted no time in calling out Leavitt’s misleading portrayal of the poll results. One user exclaimed, “At least stop lying to yourselves! We know you are lying to us!! TRUMP IS A COWARD AND HATED!”

Another sarcastically remarked, “The support is so broad that your own Secretaries of State and Defense/War refuse to go on camera stating support for it!” A third critic added, “Of course there’s support for the objectives. It’s the execution that sucks.”
One user bluntly asked, “Tell us Karoline... What’s it like working for the most corrupt administration in American history???” Another fumed, “There was broader support to never start that stupid war in the first place.”
A follower accused Leavitt of cherry-picking data, stating, “Whoa, Leavitt, you’re *really* stretching it. The poll headline states ‘Only one-quarter of Americans say the US won the war in Iran.’”
