Donald Trump’s Teleprompter Trainwreck: A Hoarse Performance That Shocks
President Donald Trump’s latest White House address turned into a spectacle of confusion as he grappled with the teleprompter, sounding hoarse and stumbling over his words.
On July 16, the Commander-in-Chief delivered a speech focused on the 2020 election and the SAVE America Act. He touted his administration's so-called successes while announcing plans to declassify documents related to the 2020 election and alleged Chinese involvement.
As Trump began speaking, social media erupted with comments about his apparent struggle. Observers noted he often repeated phrases and fumbled through his hoarse delivery. This incident follows the revelation that the teleprompter operator, accused of betting on Trump’s speeches, has been placed on administrative leave.
After the White House streamed Trump’s address on X, one viewer mocked, “Seriously? This is just the list of so-called ‘achievements’, pretty sketchy. So bad at teleprompt stuff. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.”

User Aaron Rupar shared a video highlighting Trump’s difficulties, stating, “Trump, sounding hoarse, is struggling to read the teleprompter.”
In response, one commenter speculated, “Either he has been yelling at everyone all day, or he’s been snoring due to his sleep apnea...either way he sounds and looks like s---.”
Another quipped, “Sounds like his campaign slogan is ‘Make America ... cough again.’” A third user remarked, “His normal teleprompter guy is a bit tied up,” while another added, “Hey, give him a chance, it’s a new teleprompter guy.”
The chaos surrounding the teleprompter can be traced back to a newly assigned operator. Earlier that day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that Trump’s regular teleprompter operator is under investigation for allegedly using insider knowledge to profit over $100,000 on the prediction market platform Kalshi.

Leavitt confirmed that this individual has been placed on administrative leave and is cooperating with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). “The individual that was cited in that report is complying with the CFTC and has been placed on administrative leave,” she stated during a press briefing.
Leavitt assured reporters that Trump was aware of the situation and that a replacement operator would handle the teleprompter for his address. “He believes it is deeply unfortunate and, frankly, a disgrace,” she said.
Sources close to the investigation indicated that Gabriel Perez, who has worked with Trump since 2016, is under scrutiny for placing bets on Trump’s speeches. Kalshi flagged suspicious trades linked to these speeches to federal regulators.
Robert DeNault, head of enforcement and legal counsel at Kalshi, stated on social media, “The Kalshi surveillance team promptly flagged, investigated, and referred these trades to the CFTC.”

As Trump continued his address, social media users were quick to comment on his delivery. One user wrote, “Damn, Trump is really struggling to read the teleprompter... Bleep, Bloop, I AM ROBOT HUMAN READING SCRIPT..” Another noted, “Trump is literally slurring his words. Struggling with the new teleprompter guy, I’m sure.”
A third user remarked, “Trump sounds like s---. He needs his old teleprompter operator,” while another questioned, “Cyborg Trump is freaking me out. What’s wrong with his voice?”
One user attributed Trump’s raspy voice to deteriorating air quality along the Eastern seaboard due to Canadian wildfires. “Trump’s voice sounds rough af from this wildfire air quality situation, wtf is actually going on ??? This is 4 summers in a row,” they wrote.
Further reactions flooded in as one user bluntly stated, “Trump sounds like s---. His voice is COOKED,” while another added harshly, “Jesus Christ, this fat motherf---er can’t even read a teleprompter.”
