‘It Just Feels Too Good’: Rachel Maddow Slams Trump’s Cozy Ties with Russia

“It just feels so good,” Rachel Maddow remarked Monday, critiquing President Donald Trump’s apparent inability to refrain from aiding Russia. (Watch the video below.)

On her show, the host laid out a compelling argument that Trump has consistently favored Russian interests, even as the U.S. grapples with its own conflicts, particularly in Iran.

She pointed out that while the U.S. is embroiled in a war, Russia is benefiting from soaring oil prices, a situation exacerbated by the U.S. easing sanctions against its adversary. This shift occurs simultaneously with reports of Kremlin intelligence providing strategic advice to Iran on countering American forces.

Adding to the controversy, Maddow highlighted the Trump administration's efforts to exonerate Alexander Smirnov, a former FBI informant linked to Russia. Smirnov had previously misled the FBI about Joe Biden, which contributed to the failed impeachment proceedings against the president. Recently, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche submitted a brief supporting Smirnov’s request to retract his guilty plea and overturn his prison sentence, as reported by Mother Jones.

Maddow expressed her disbelief at these developments.

“Maybe our president just can’t stop himself from acting to help Russia,” she stated. “Even when Russia is acting to kill Americans. Maybe he just can’t stop himself. It just feels so good. He can’t stop.”

A recent editorial from USA Today echoed this sentiment, asserting that “Trump has always been harder on America’s allies than he has on geopolitical foes like Russia.”

However, Maddow’s sharp critique suggests that Trump’s relationship with Russia goes beyond mere leniency; it indicates a troubling camaraderie with a nation often viewed as a traditional enemy.
