Sean Duffy's America 250 Speech: A Cringe-Inducing Slam on His Own Kids
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy delivered a speech at the America 250 celebrations that spiraled into controversy, as he unwittingly insulted his own children. Critics wasted no time in calling out the glaring hypocrisy of a father of nine using derogatory language while standing next to his family.
At the Great American State Fair, Duffy kicked off his remarks by attacking artists who withdrew from the event, claiming their concerns about political overtones were unfounded. He opened with a slur, using the term “lib****,” a twisted version of a derogatory term for individuals with developmental disabilities.

“I think we have to give a big round of applause for our military band and singers…way better than those lib****s that canceled on us,” Duffy stated, igniting a firestorm of outrage on social media.
Responses flooded in, with many pointing out that one of Duffy’s children, Valentina, has Down syndrome. The backlash was swift and severe. “Disgusting that this man with a special needs child would use such a slur. That’s no Christian,” one critic posted on X.
Another user questioned how Duffy could stand on stage and use an altered slur that directly harms people like his daughter. “You'd think Sean and @RCamposDuffy wouldn't mock special needs people when their daughter has Downs Syndrome!” someone else chimed in.

Comments labeled the incident as “a disgrace” and “truly disgusting.” Duffy’s office has been contacted for a response.
In the same speech, Duffy, who gained fame as a reality TV star before entering politics, urged young people to “get married and have lots of kids.” He claimed they have been misled about what constitutes a fulfilling life.
“They have been told that they would be fulfilled with hookup culture or some get-rich-quick scheme,” he asserted. “Or they could find fame on social media and that would fulfill them.”
Duffy continued, “But I’ll tell you, they found that that’s a false promise. That’s a lie, and they’ve sought truth. And in seeking truth, they have gone to church.”
Ironically, his eldest child, 26-year-old Evita Campos-Duffy, is known for sharing her life with hundreds of thousands of followers online. She recently responded to her father's comments, asserting that her fulfillment comes not from social media but from her Catholic faith.
“For the record, I don’t find fulfillment from posting on X,” she stated. “My dad said to find fulfillment through faith and family — and I have. I’m a practicing Catholic, married to a wonderful husband, and just had a beautiful baby.”
