Trump Casts Mail Ballot in Florida While Advocating for Voting Restrictions

Mar 24 2026

President Donald Trump has reportedly submitted a mail-in ballot for an upcoming special election in Florida, despite his ongoing assertions that mail-in voting is rife with fraud. This action took place in Palm Beach County, where he resides, as part of a race for the state legislature.

Interestingly, Trump was present in the area over the weekend when early in-person voting was available, yet he opted for the mail-in option instead. On Monday, he took to Truth Social to urge Floridians to participate in the “very important” election, providing a link for voters to locate their polling places. Notably absent from his message was any mention of his decision to vote by mail rather than in person.

The Trump administration responded to the reporting by dismissing it as a “non-story,” emphasizing that it is widely known he utilizes mail-in voting due to his primary residence being the White House. Historically, Trump has voted by mail multiple times, including during the 2020 presidential primary and a Florida election in 2021.

This reliance on mail-in ballots stands in stark contrast to his long-standing criticisms of the practice. Just hours before casting his ballot, he reiterated his stance during a visit to Memphis, stating, "Mail-in voting means mail-in cheating." He emphasized the need for action against what he perceives as fraudulent practices.

Trump's rhetoric surrounding voting fraud has been a cornerstone of his narrative since losing the 2020 election, where he falsely attributed his defeat to widespread voter fraud. He is also a key proponent of the GOP’s SAVE America Act, which aims to implement stricter ID requirements for federal elections, including those conducted by mail.

Discussions regarding this legislation have stalled progress in Congress, with Trump asserting he will not endorse new bills until the SAVE America Act is passed. However, the Senate faces significant hurdles in advancing the bill due to Democratic opposition.

On another front, the Supreme Court heard arguments on Monday regarding whether states can continue counting mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day. While all 50 states mandate that ballots must be cast or postmarked by Election Day, 14 states allow for grace periods that can extend counting for weeks.
