Trump Unleashes Fury on Female Reporter at WHCD, Dismisses Award as 'Fake'
President Donald Trump unleashed a barrage of insults at female reporter Kaitlan Collins during his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, dismissing her award as a sham.
“But I wanna personally congratulate CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on receiving her award. It’s all about me; it’s a fake. She shouldn’t get the award; it was a fake, but I didn’t mind. I said, ‘Kaitlan, congratulations,’ but it was fake, there’s no question about it,” Trump declared, mocking the legitimacy of her recognition.
He labeled Collins a “young attractive woman,” yet criticized her for not smiling. “I said, ‘Kaitlan, do you ever smile?’ Smile, you have a nice position, you’re at CNN fake news, you should be a happy person,” he remarked, belittling her demeanor.
Trump then pivoted to social media figure Dylan Mulvaney, mistakenly identifying Collins as the face of Mulvaney’s controversial 2023 Bud Light promotion. “Dylan Mulvaney cost Bud Light $35 billion in market cap,” Trump stated. “That was the worst commercial ever made, by the way, for those few people who wanna hear that, most people don’t care, but I would, I wouldn’t wanna hire Dylan anytime soon.”
A spokesperson for CNN defended Collins, stating she is an “exceptional, trusted journalist” recognized for her depth of knowledge and context in reporting. The spokesperson emphasized her strength and tenacity in covering the White House and her role as anchor.
In March, Collins received the WHCA’s Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage Under Deadline Pressure in the broadcast journalism category.
Trump has a history of targeting female reporters, particularly Collins, who serves as CNN’s chief White House correspondent and hosts “The Source.”
This week alone, Trump lashed out at ABC’s Mary Bruce after she inquired about his strategy regarding the war in Iran. “How would you know there are no signs? Why, do you know something I don’t know? You don’t know what the dialogue is behind the scenes, that they want to meet desperately to try to end it, because they’re getting decimated,” he retorted.
“You don’t get that when you listen to your fake station, but you don’t know, you don’t know anything,” he added, further attacking the credibility of the media.
