Eric Trump’s 2018 Defense of Dad Goes Viral Amid Reflecting Pool Disaster
An interview featuring Eric Trump defending his father has exploded on social media, igniting a firestorm of criticism and mockery.
The clip, originating from January 2018, shows Eric Trump on Fox News’ Fox and Friends, where he attempted to shield Donald Trump from accusations of racism. This defense came in the wake of a media frenzy over reports that the president had referred to certain African and Central American nations as "s--thole countries."
Fast forward to today, and the video has resurfaced, particularly resonating with viewers due to the recent renovations of the Reflecting Pool, which now sports a murky green color.
During the interview, Eric Trump stated, "My father sees one color: Green. That’s all he cares about." Social media users seized on this line, finding it particularly amusing given the current state of the Reflecting Pool.
One user on X quipped, "This explains so much about the Reflecting Pool," while another chimed in with, "Mostly from all the algae in the reflecting pool." A third user added, "LOL. 'Like green with envy? Or green like money?' 'No, green with algae,'" and a fourth remarked, "Well, this aged well." This commentary coincides with ongoing issues plaguing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool after a costly renovation.
The basin was recently repainted a bright "American flag blue," but it now faces severe algae blooms and peeling sealant.
Images reveal the pool's current murky green hue, with floating plant life littering the surface. Reports indicate that the newly applied flooring has begun to peel, with pieces visible on the water's surface.
National Park Service crews are scrambling to address the algae problem using underwater vacuums, strainers, hydrogen peroxide, and nano-bubble technology. Due to the peeling and rampant algae growth, the Trump administration has announced plans to partially drain the pool for further repairs.
The failure of these renovations has sparked various theories. MAGA supporters allege that sabotage by the Left is to blame.
President Trump has claimed—without evidence—that vandalism is responsible for the peeling sealant and murky water. He accused individuals of pouring corrosive chemicals into the pool and cutting its liner, leading to multiple arrests.
Among those arrested was former Olympic canoeist David Hearn, who contended he merely touched a detached piece of the liner without causing any damage.
Experts in swimming pools and ecology have pointed out that algae blooms are a natural occurrence for this century-old shallow pool. They suggest that the peeling may stem from improper surface preparation or groundwater seepage rather than any malicious acts.
