Trump Reveals GOP Rep. Would Have Met Grim Fate Without His Intervention
During a board meeting at the Kennedy Center on Monday, President Donald Trump made headlines by revealing that Florida Representative Neal Dunn (R) would have been “dead by June” without his intervention. This startling claim came amidst Trump's assertions about predicting 9/11 and an unexpected tangent about paint.
Trump attributed Dunn's dire situation to a heart condition, prompting House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to take the microphone, visibly taken aback. “OK,” Johnson responded, “that wasn’t public, but … OK. It was grim.”
“With a heart problem!” Trump interjected enthusiastically, emphasizing the severity of Dunn's health crisis.
In January, Dunn announced he would not seek reelection, citing a desire to spend more time with his family and grandchildren. However, Trump’s comments suggested a more urgent reason behind Dunn's decision.
Trump recounted a conversation with Johnson, who expressed concern over the slim Republican majority in the House. “Mike called me and he said, ‘Sir, we’re up by three but I think we’re gonna lose one by June,’” Trump recalled. “I said, ‘That’s bad.’ No. 1 is bad because I liked him, No. 2 it was bad because I needed his vote.”
Johnson confirmed that Trump urged his medical team to intervene in Dunn’s treatment, leading to emergency surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center within hours.

While Trump boasted about orchestrating this high-level medical intervention, he did not clarify what specific care Dunn received that was unavailable to him as a sitting congressman.
“It was a long operation,” Trump stated, recounting the moment he received an update from the medical team. “They called up and said, ‘Sir, I think he’ll be fine.’”
“He has a new lease on life,” Johnson concluded, underscoring the unexpected turn of events for Dunn.
