President Donald Trump faced a brutal social media onslaught after he shared an AI-generated image of a golden eagle on the Truman Balcony, claiming it was a “Golden Gift to the White House for its 250th Birthday Year!”
The image, posted on Truth Social, depicted the eagle perched on the South Portico, overlooking the South Lawn. Critics wasted no time in mocking Trump’s obsession with gold, which has been documented extensively, especially during his second term. Reports from New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan revealed a bizarre incident where White House press secretary Karoline Levitt caught Trump super-gluing golden decorations to the Oval Office fireplace mantle.
Metadata from the eagle image suggested it was created using Google AI, although HuffPost could not verify this claim. The eagle itself raised eyebrows as it featured only 11 stars, falling short of the traditional 13 that symbolize the original colonies.
No credible sources have produced any other images of the eagle on the Truman Balcony since Trump’s post. Freelance photographer Andrew Leyden shared photos on X showing the balcony devoid of any eagle.
Critics lambasted Trump not just for the gaudy decoration but also for his claim regarding the White House’s “250th Birthday Year.” While 2026 marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the White House was not completed until 1800, making Trump’s assertion historically inaccurate.
