On May 7, Fox News cut into its regular programming to broadcast Trump, 79, addressing reporters at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. After a brief discussion about the landmark's restoration, he pivoted to the hot topic of U.S.-Iran relations.

While assuring that the ceasefire was intact, Trump issued a veiled threat to Iran, stirring up anxiety over the already tenuous peace negotiations. “The ceasefire is still on. Yeah, it is. They trifled with us today. I call that a trifle. We blew them away,” he declared, gesturing dramatically. “I will let you know when there’s no ceasefire. But you won’t have to know. Because you’re going to look at one big glow coming out of Iran,” he warned, as if conjuring images of impending doom.

Viewers wasted no time in voicing their discontent on social media, branding Trump a “gutless leader” lacking the negotiation chops to secure a lasting peace deal. One critic slammed, “Trump is a total bull----er; he doesn’t have the balls to finish what he started.”

Another chimed in, “He should be ashamed. That’s not how you make a deal. Trump says the ceasefire holds, but tensions are still one spark away from escalation.” A third user added, “All Trump does is bluff like a coward. He is being embarrassed while hiding behind all this tough-talking nonsense.”

Despite the chorus of criticism, a few loyal supporters defended him, with one stating, “Iran trifled, got blown away, and the ceasefire still holds. That’s called leverage.”

In the midst of this turmoil, Iran has maintained strict control over oil navigation routes, requiring prior authorization for passage. In response, Trump initiated Project Freedom—a controversial plan aimed at assisting vessels stranded due to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz—before abruptly suspending it on the same day.

He had previously touted the initiative as a humanitarian effort “meant to free up people, companies and countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong.”

Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that they would ensure a “safe and stable” passageway through the Strait, claiming that they had neutralized the “aggressor’s threats,” referring to the pause in Project Freedom.

Before addressing the press, Trump engaged in a lengthy 40-minute phone call with Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reportedly ending with praise for Lula’s political career.
