Trump's Tariff Blitz: 60 Nations Slammed with Up to 12.5% Penalties

President Trump unleashes a brutal tariff assault on 60 economies, slapping rates between 10% and 12.5%. This move replaces the expired Section 122 levies, which vanished early Friday morning.

The White House unveiled the new tariff schedule Thursday night, activating it under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The tariffs target goods from U.S. trade partners accused of allowing forced labor, with the new rates kicking in at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

A senior administration official touted this as "the most sweeping international labor rights action the United States has ever taken, that any country has ever taken."

Countries that have made strides to ban forced labor face a 10% tariff, while those that fail to act effectively are hit with a harsher 12.5% rate.

U.S. officials assert that all 60 economies subjected to these tariffs do not impose or enforce a ban on goods produced with forced labor.

This aggressive trade action encompasses a staggering 99.4% of U.S. imports, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
